Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

CRITICAL VENTURES — Sociedade de Capital de Risco, S.A. (“Critical Ventures,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) is an independently managed venture capital firm incorporated in Portugal. We are the data controller for personal data collected through critical-ventures.com and our deal submission and contact forms.

2. Data we collect

We collect the following personal data:

Contact information: name, email address, telephone number, organisation.
Professional information: LinkedIn profile, company name, role.
Deal information: pitch details, financials, deck materials submitted via our forms.
Technical data: IP address, browser type, pages visited (via cookies and server logs).

3. Why we collect it

We use your data to:

Evaluate and respond to deal submissions and general enquiries.
Maintain our CRM and track interactions with founders and partners.
Send relevant communications (only with your consent).
Improve the website and user experience.
Comply with legal and regulatory obligations.

4. Legal basis

Our processing is based on: (a) your consent when you submit a form or subscribe to communications; (b) our legitimate interests in evaluating investment opportunities, including with the assistance of AI tools as described in Section 5; and (c) compliance with legal obligations.

5. Our use of AI tools

We use artificial intelligence tools in two ways, described below. We do not use AI chatbots anywhere on our website.

This section was added in August 2026; earlier versions of this policy did not address AI use.

5.1 AI-assisted deal review and internal analysis

When we evaluate deal submissions, we may use AI tools — including Anthropic’s Claude, Microsoft Copilot, and other similar tools we adopt from time to time — to help our team summarise, analyse, and prepare internal materials (including presentations) based on the information you submit, such as pitch decks, financial information, and related correspondence.

We use these tools under business/enterprise-tier agreements with the relevant providers.

These providers act as our data processors for this purpose. Your data may be processed on their servers, which may be located outside the European Economic Area; where this occurs, we rely on the providers’ standard contractual clauses or equivalent safeguards.

AI outputs are used to support, not replace, human judgement. No deal is accepted or rejected solely on the basis of an automated or AI-generated output — a member of our investment team always reviews deal materials and makes the final call. See Section 9 on automated decision-making.

5.2 AI-assisted content creation

We sometimes use AI tools to help draft content for our News page. All AI-assisted articles are reviewed and edited by a member of our team before publication, and Critical Ventures retains editorial responsibility for everything we publish.

Under Article 50(4) of the EU AI Act, AI-generated text published to inform the public on matters of public interest generally must be labelled as AI-generated, unless it has undergone human review and a person or organisation holds editorial responsibility for it — which is the case for our News content.

6. Data sharing

We do not sell or rent your personal information to third parties. We may share it with:

our internal team and portfolio advisors, for deal evaluation;
AI tool providers (including Anthropic and Microsoft), acting as processors, as described in Section 5;
other service providers who process data on our behalf under confidentiality and data processing agreements; and
regulatory authorities, where required by law.

7. Data retention

We retain deal submission and contact data for up to 5 years to evaluate future opportunities and maintain our records. We retain information only as long as necessary for the purposes described. You may request deletion at any time.

8. Your rights (GDPR)

Under EU GDPR, you have the right to:

Access, correct, or request deletion of your personal data.
Object to or restrict our processing, including processing that involves AI-assisted analysis.
Data portability.
Withdraw consent at any time without affecting prior lawful processing.
Lodge a complaint with the CNPD (Comissão Nacional de Proteção de Dados).

9. Automated decision-making

We do not make decisions about your deal submission based on automated processing. Every decision is made by members of our investment team. Our use of AI tools (Section 5) merely supports our team’s analysis.

Non-essential cookies— used to improve your experience and understand how visitors use our site (e.g. analytics). These are only set with your consent.
