Why We Invested in Humanos
By Critical Ventures
Why we backed them
Humanos is our newest bet, and one of our boldest. As companies start turning agents loose on real operations, a whole new layer has to exist above the agent stack, one that decides what an AI is allowed to do and keeps a human in the loop where it counts. That authorization layer is what Humanos is building. We backed them because the category didn’t even exist when we first wrote our thesis, and the teams that define a category early tend to be the ones that end up owning it. The further agentic AI scales, the harder this layer becomes to live without.
How they fit the thesis
Humanos is the clearest expression of the new pillar we added with the most conviction: the AI Control Plane. While agents commoditise the application layer beneath them, the value drifts upward, into authorization, governance and human oversight, pulled along by the EU AI Act, NIS2 and DORA. An AI acting without the right authorization, inside a system that matters, is the defining silent failure of the agentic era. Humanos exists so that it doesn’t happen.
Why you should put them to work
If you are putting AI agents into anything that matters, your hardest question isn’t whether the agent can act. It is whether it should, right now, and on whose say-so. Humanos gives you that control plane: authorization, human-in-the-loop checkpoints, and an audit trail that turns AI from something your risk team dreads into something they can actually sign off on. You scale your agents with the brakes already fitted.
